The albums and limited-edition boxes for both vinyl and CD to house the full collection will be available only via the David Bowie official store and Warner Music Group’s Dig! store.

The fifth in the series, out 12th March on CD and double vinyl, is SOMETHING IN THE AIR (LIVE PARIS 99) a 15-track live album, featuring 12 previously unreleased recordings and three B-sides of singles from the ‘hours…’ album. The Elysée Montmartre performance was one of only seven full shows promoting the ‘hours…’ album. For this special limited run of gigs Bowie dug deep into his back catalogue making these shows particularly memorable. SOMETHING IN THE AIR (LIVE PARIS 99) was recorded live at the Elysée Montmartre on 14th October 1999. It was mixed by Mark Plati, and features Bowie backed by Page Hamilton – guitar, Gail Ann Dorsey – bass, vocals, Mark Plati – guitar, Sterling Campbell – drums, Mike Garson – piano, keyboards, synthesisers and Emm Gryner and Holly Palmer – backing vocals.

Iman's Valentine’s Day messages to David

1993_iman_db_london_pap_1080sq.jpg

“He kissed her then and there...”

Iman posted two Valentine’s Day messages to David on socials earlier, one of which was a picture of them from March 1993 kissing in the street in London’s Chelsea, with the following caption…

We rarely post paparazzi pictures, but we’re making an exception for these as it seems (if the photo caption is to be believed), that the couple were OK with the situation.

They certainly look like they were.

ISOLAR 1 Tour kicks off 45 years ago tonight

1976_vancouver_mont_flat_1080sq.jpg

“The European canon is here”

Forty-five years ago, on 2nd of February 1976, the ISOLAR 1 World Tour* commenced at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver, Canada.

Following the surrealist shock of show opener, Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí's Un Chien Andalou, Bowie walked onto the stage at around 20:50 (right about now if you’re in Vancouver) to the opening strains of Station To Station in front of a 17,500 strong audience.

Fronting a band comprised of Carlos Alomar (rhythm guitar), Stacy Heydon (lead guitar), Dennis Davis (drums, percussion), George Murray (bass) and Tony Kaye (keyboards, synthesisers), Bowie was icy cool in black and white with a swept back shock of blond and crimson hair.

The show was reported in a couple of local newspapers the following day. Here’s a short excerpt from Nick Collier’s review in the Vancouver Sun...

+ - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - + - +

“Bowie has long claimed to be an actor playing out a role as a rock star. Film is the medium of expression with which he has become enamored, and his spartan set, lit with dozens of white spotlights, strengthened the image.

He was slightly tense, but the effect as he sang “the return of the thin white duke/throwing darts in lover’s eyes” was stunning.

The proclamatory verse from Station To Station segued into Suffragette City with a burst of brilliant light, and Bowie smiled like a shy child on the beach at Sybaris.

Carnations and roses were tossed from the audience as he sang Waiting For The Man and then moved on to the strange spiritual call of Word On A Wing.”

The image by Robert Murray top left in our montage appeared in the same half-page review and must have been the first published photograph of The Thin White Duke live. The main image of Bowie in similar pose was taken by Andrew Kent. The other images are of the Vancouver pass and the ISOLAR tour programme.

* ISOLAR 1 was the name given to the tour retrospectively. At the time it was variously known as The 1976 World Tour, The Station To Station Tour, The White Light Tour and it's even been assigned the name that appeared on promotional items such as the press kit: DAVID BOWIE ON STAGE 1976. Take your pick.
