August Pic For...erm...march - Plus Will Update

And a loser I Will be...

Above is another still of David Bowie as Ogilvie in August, enjoying an in-between-takes chat with Josh Hartnett who plays Tom. It's not the first we've featured here, but if it is as far as you're concerned, then you need to check out the following news items. (01.29.2008 NEWS: EXCLUSIVE STILL OF HARTNETT AND BOWIE FROM AUGUST & 02.04.2008 NEWS: ANOTHER EXCLUSIVE BOWIE STILL FROM AUGUST & 02.15.2008 NEWS: YET ANOTHER EXCLUSIVE STILL FROM AUGUST!)

Who knows, we might yet post another exclusive from August in April...Not planning it as such, but it could happen...that's how mad we are!

Meanwhile, we can now officially confirm that David Bowie does indeed make an appearance in the upcoming Todd Graff movie, Will, albeit rather briefly. Here's the synopsis...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WILL BURTON (Gaelan Connell) is used to being bullied or completely ignored by his schoolmates,

(see today's lyric quotation) so when cool and popular former cheerleader CHARLOTTE BANKS (Alyson Michalka) starts inviting him to hang out with her, the quirky teenager is stunned and so is his doting single mom KAREN (Lisa Kudrow). Impressed by his eclectic knowledge of music, Charlotte, a gifted singer-songwriter, asks Will to manage her fledgling rock band. The goal: go head to head against her egotistical musician ex-boyfriend BEN WHEATLEY (Scott Porter) at a regional battle-of-the-bands.

Unsure of what he's getting himself into, Will agrees to help Charlotte's off-beat trio, eventually expanding it with a crew of like-minded outcasts. Against all odds, the group's sound starts to come together and their prospects for success look bright. Even more amazingly, Will's loser status finally seems to be a thing of the past; he even has a potential romance brewing with a kindred spirit named SAM (Vanessa Hudgens), a classmate with untapped musical talents. But when Charlotte is faced with a family tragedy, she suddenly breaks off her friendship with Will and quits the band, leaving their competition chances in tatters. With Will's new-found self-confidence on the ropes and the contest almost upon them, he and the band must choose whether to admit defeat or face the music and stand up for what they believe in.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

David Bowie plays himself in the movie and he has now filmed his contribution, which he calls: "a ten second scene of absolute silence".

Stay tuned for an exclusive shot of DB in character. It's intriguing stuff all right.

Last Shadow Puppets Cover Bowie On Debut 7

Like the ragged boy who races with the wind...

As I'm sure you've already learned from either the original NME item or various reports since, Domino records will release the debut single by The Last Shadow Puppets, entitled The Age Of The Understatement, on Monday the 14th of April 2008. The album, of the same name, will follow a week later on the 21st of April.

The Last Shadow Puppets are Alex Turner (from Arctic Monkeys) and Miles Kane (from The Rascals). The boys made it clear in the original press release what their influences had been: "Firm friends ever since Arctic Monkeys toured with Kane?s previous group, The Little Flames, the pair were so inspired by listening to the likes of Scott Walker, early Bowie and David Axelrod, that they hatched a plan."

As announced in that NME piece, The Last Shadow Puppets love of early Bowie has extended to them releasing a cover of In The Heat Of The Morning as one of the extra tracks on the forthcoming single along with a version of Billy Fury?s Wondrous Place.

However, despite the reports suggesting that the Bowie cover would be on the CD, I could find no mention of it as an extra track at any of the usual online stores.

After a bit of digging it appears the track will appear on the second of two 7" singles.

The Age Of The Understatement will be available on CD (RUG288CD), 2 x 7?s (RUG288 & 228X) and via digital download (RUG288D). Here's the tracklisting for each of the formats...

7? # 1
A - The Age Of The Understatement
B - Two Hearts in Two Weeks

7? # 2
A - The Age Of The Understatement
B - In The Heat Of The Morning

CD
1 - The Age Of The Understatement
2 - Two Hearts In Two Weeks
3 - Wondrous Place

Deluxe David Bowie Box Set Winners

Then I got the small silver box...

Those of you with elephantine memories may recall this contest that closed on December 23rd last year.

At the time, I was crossing my fingers that we would get "five boxes in total which will hopefully include at least two or three signed sets." ...And that's what we got. Five sets...three of which are signed.

You may remember that the contest was a three-parter based on the first album in the set: 1. Outside, and more specifically, THE DIARY of NATHAN ADLER, that accompanied the "non-linear Gothic Drama Hyper-cycle".

So, before I get on to the winners, here are the three questions we set with the answers you needed to be in with a chance...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(12.05.2007 NEWS: DELUXE DAVID BOWIE BOX SET CONTEST)

Q1 - Where was the murder scene? In other words, the remains of 14-year-old "Baby Grace Blue" were discovered in the doorway of which building?
A1 - Oxford Town Museum Of Modern Parts.

(12.06.2007 NEWS: DELUXE DAVID BOWIE BOX SET CONTEST - PART 2)

Q2 - Who is the rather inquisitive looking, if not a little unkempt, character in the picture above?
A2 - Detective Professor Nathan Adler.

(12.16.2007 NEWS: DELUXE DAVID BOWIE BOX SET CONTEST - PART 3)

Q3 - It was conclusively proved that the cow in the foreground of the painting above could not differentiate between what and what?
A3 - The cow in Mark Tansey's "The Innocent Eye Test" could not differentiate between Paulus Potter's "The Young Bull" and one of Monet's grain stack paintings.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the record, you didn't have to be word perfect, as long as your answers contained the general gist of those above, you were in with a chance.

In the event, the five members below were lovingly plucked from The Random Selector's virtual hat.

kazlaaz
juliedawn
johnnie_7
carny
merga

The first three in the list each win a signed box and the remaining two will receive unsigned boxes.

I should point out that the signed boxes have sustained some slight damage in transit, so if you three would rather an unsigned sealed version in absolutely mint condition then please speak up now.

Either way, if all five of you could please forward your names and addresses, we'll have these wonderful prizes out to you shortly.

Ashes To Ashes Soundtrack Out Monday...win It Here

Down in space it's always 1982... (or thereabouts)

As we get closer to the series finale (penultimate episode this coming Thursday) Sony BMG are set to release the original soundtrack which accompanies the hit BBC TV series Ashes To Ashes on Monday...and we have five copies to give away courtesy of LD COMMUNICATIONS.

But, before all that, here's the full tracklisting:

01 Introduction ? Dialogue: Alex Drake
02 David Bowie ? Ashes To Ashes
03 Visage ? Fade To Grey
04 The Human League- Love Action
05 Duran Duran ? Girls On Film
06 Dexys Midnight Runners ? Geno
07 OMD ? Souvenir
08 The Stranglers ? No More Heroes
09 The Clash ? I Fought The Law
10 Heaven 17 ? (We Don?t Need This) Fascist Groove Thing
11 Interlude ? Dialogue: You?re Nicked
12 Edmund Butt ? Gene Genie (Gene Hunt?s theme from ?Ashes To Ashes?)
13 The Passions ? In Love With A German Film Star
14 Altered Images ? Happy Birthday
15 Joe Jackson ? It?s Different For Girls
16 Flying Lizards ? Money
17 The Beat ? Doors Of Your Heart
18 The Ruts ? Staring At The Rude Boys
19 The Teardrop Explodes ? Reward
20 Tenpole Tudor ? Swords Of A Thousand Men
21 Bryan Ferry ? Let?s Stick Together
22 Ultravox ? Vienna
23 Edmund Butt - Title Music from ?Ashes To Ashes?
24 Epilogue: Dialogue: Fandabydozy

Ashes To Ashes is the full album version, while track 12, despite it's title, has nothing to do with the similarly-named Bowie song.

Of course, unlike the recent TOTP 80s triple CD release (02.24.2008 NEWS: TOTP TRIPLE CD INCLUDES ASHES TO ASHES) the compiler of this soundtrack hasn't stuck religiously to 80s releases, with five of the CD's nineteen non-original compositions being originally released in the 70s.

Now guess what, to be in with a chance of winning one of the five CDs, all you have to do is identify those five tracks that were originally released in the 70s. I should point out that the Ferry track isn't the 80s remix, but the original.

Not easy, I know. Particularly as it isn't even a Bowie-related answer...that's eliminated one possibility for you!

However, if you do find the stamina to enter and you think you have all five answers, (titles alone will do) send your entry to me here.

Usual BowieNet rules apply: Only one entry per BowieNet account, and please remember you must enter using your BowieNet e-mail or at least supply your BowieNet user name.

The contest ends at 10:00pm UK time on Thursday 20th, giving the lucky winners a week to listen before the final episode...A really useful advantage I'm sure you'll agree.

The five winners will be notified relatively shortly thereafter.

Gad Donates A Piece Of Bowie History To Ima Ebay Auction

Girls, They come and they go, Like spirits...

The much-missed Gail Ann Dorsey has been in touch with details of a very generous donation she has made to The Institute For Musical Arts. Over to you Gail...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A VERY ?SPECIAL? PIECE OF GAIL ANN DORSEY MEMORABILIA ON EBAY

Hello Dear Friends & Music Lovers! It?s Gail Ann Dorsey here with a special announcement! Myself, and some of my groovy friends (like DB and Gwen Stefani) have contributed some special signed items up for auction on eBay in the coming days!

The objective is to raise funds for the completion of a professional recording facility at The Institute For Musical Arts in Goshen, Massachusetts. The IMA is a gorgeous, 25-acre, rural site near Northampton dedicated to education, training, hands on experience, and exposure to all things music for aspiring young female artists and seasoned veterans alike.

The IMA is co-founded and run by guitarist June Millington of the fabulous 70?s all-female rock group Fanny. (June?s sister Jean was the bass player and Earl Slick?s first wife!). Fanny were a ground-breaking, all-female tour de force, paving the way for the likes of yours truly, with a level of integrity and musicianship that commands the utmost of respect and acknowledgment.

Being a woman who has reached many plateaus in the music industry that I never imagined I would ever reach, this cause is particularly near to my heart. Therefore, I have donated a very individual item that holds great sentimental value for me and truly represents one of those ?special?, pinnacle moments in my career.

Since my website site is s**t and about to be torn down and completely reconstructed, I thought I needed to let all you Bowie collectors and music fans out there know what I have put up for grabs! My ?special? item goes up on March 14th through the 23rd, and I believe there are already some signed CD?s available for the taking.

So check it out! Bid high! Don?t let the girls down. Don?t let me down! This is a great cause!?And because I am a woman, I can make records at the studio when it?s finished too!

To find out what incredible piece of signed memorabilia could be yours, go here.

Find out more about The Institute For Musical Arts by visiting www.ima.org

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even if you think bidding on the item may be out of your league, you should check out Gail's eBay page here, if not only to read all the extra information she has supplied, such as this:

?To give you a rundown of the labels and what they mean, Patch 1 ?CLEAN? was the setting that I used for my overall bass sound on a given night, Patch 2 ?FILTHY? was for the funky slap of ?Hearts Filthy Lesson?, Patch 3 ?HEROES? speaks for itself, Patch 4 ?MOTEL? was my fretless simile for ?The Motel?, Patch 5 ?LIL? WONDER? something for the drum ?n bass world of ?Little Wonder?, Patch 6 ?MOONAGE? for the classic ?Moonage Daydream?, Patch 7 what I called ??YOGAZONE?, was for one of my favourite songs to play, ?Seven Years In Tibet?, Patch 8 ?LIL? W. RAVE? a new spin I must have needed for a ?rave? version of ?Little Wonder?, Patch 9 ?S-BOY? was the thunderous fury of ?Hallo Space Boy?, and Patch 0, ?DEATH? David?s dramatic Jacques Brel cover ?My Death?.?

Filming Wraps On Duncan Jones' Sci-fi Thriller, Moon

Under the moonlight, the serious moonlight...

Visitors to the BowieNet MBs will be aware that director Duncan Jones confirmed his full length feature debut, Moon, there last month. If you're in the UK you may have caught a preview of the movie on Film 2008 with Jonathan Ross this week.

Going by what Duncan and lead actor Sam Rockwell reveal about Moon in the Film 2008 interview, it sounds like it's going to be a truly great piece of cinema, influenced as it is by some of the seventies sci-fi masterpieces such as Silent Running..

Those UK members that missed Film 2008 (Episode 9) can still see it on the very handy BBC iPlayer for a few more days.

Meanwhile, though the film has now wrapped, it sounds like Mr Jones almost didn't make it through to the end of shooting...as he explains below:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Three days left in the shoot and I fall off a scaffold and nearly kill myself.
Got away with some cracked ribs and stitches above my eye. Phew!

The live action shoot is DONE! COMPLETE! FINIS! That's ALL folks, we are OUTTA here!

I can't tell you how exhilarating it is to be done! It's very, very sexy. It was also quite emotional. It was an intense shoot, and it all got quite sad as we realized that that was the last time we would all be together.. *sniff* Anyway...

You may have had a gander at the photo above and seen my new scar... also very sexy! Well, I'm OK, but I did suffer a couple of fractured ribs along with it, so I'm feeling a little delicate. I'm sure Ill survive the wrap party though. ;)

All our footage has been looking good. Really good, to be honest. I get my head into the editing at the end of the week, but Nick Gaster, my editor, has said we are looking pretty good. A lot of work ahead of us, of course, but we're in good shape. So! I'm going to get some sleep...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stay tuned for more in the very near future.

Another Db Shot From Nme Vault Plus Track On Nme Cd

I'm changing trains, Angels like them, Thin on the ground...

It seems barely a couple of months back that NME magazine featured David Bowie in their FROM THE NME VAULT feature, and that's probably because it was barely two months back. (01.19.2008 NEWS: NME PUBLISHES FULL PAGE MICK ROCK BOWIE PHOTO)

The magazine has clearly decided that when it comes to pictures that are the epitome of cool, you can never have too much David Bowie...and the above Jan Persson shot has to be just about the coolest seventies photo of rock stars together...apart from the one of Ziggy, Iggy and Lou and the one of Bowie and Lennon at The Grammies and, and, and...

Anyway, read about the above, below...and if you buy this week's NME (March 15th) you get a nice big glossy version of the picture without the FROM THE NME VAULT logo at the top.

Also in the current NME is a feature regarding NME Classics, a three disc, 61-track compilation of 70s, 80s and 90s tracks "from the history of NME' that is released this week.

The single edit of "Heroes" is included, as is Iggy Pop's Lust For Life, co-written by Bowie.

Af Perform Heroes At Barack Obama Rallies In Ohio

We can be Heroes, for ever and ever...

As Win Butler announced on his band's site last week, Arcade Fire have played a couple of small gigs in Ohio in support of Barack Obama's bid for the Democratic nomination.

Here's Win explaining why it had to be done...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know I know, we said we were done...but we are just so engaged by this election that is happening. How often can you say that, right? We are not going to play in Ohio to pretend to tell anyone what to do with their lives, but we just want to come and celebrate and bring a little more energy to a campaign which has brought so much excitement and hope to the country.

If you count the Reagan years when Bush Sr. was V.P., there has been a Bush or a Clinton in the presidency for all but 9 months of my life, and the reality that the country might be ready to change it up a bit is really exhilarating.

Barack is also the only candidate still in the running who showed the wisdom to speak out against the war before it was popular to do so.

See some of you at Stuart's Opera House in Nelsonville, and the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland on Sunday and Monday!

P.S. we really wanted to come and play in me and Will's home state of Texas too, but not having to get on another plane was too tempting!

Win Butler - February 2008

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The band performed David Bowie's "Heroes" at both shows along with covers of Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come and John Lennon's Gimme Some Truth.

Here are the setlists from both nights...

First show: Stuart's Opera House, Nelsonville, 03.02.08

"Intervention"
"Keep the Car Running"
"Heroes" [David Bowie cover]
"A Change Is Gonna Come" [Sam Cooke cover]
"Rebellion (Lies)"
"Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)"
"Wake Up"
"Gimme Some Truth" [John Lennon cover]

Second show: Beachland Ballroom, Cleveland, 03.03.08

"Heroes" [David Bowie cover]
"(Antichrist Television Blues)"
"Neighborhood #2 (Laïka)"
"Gimme Some Truth" [John Lennon cover]
"Wake Up"
"Rebellion (Lies)"
"A Change Is Gonna Come" [Sam Cooke cover]

You can view a fairly good quality film of Arcade Fire performing the 1977 Bowie classic from last night's Cleveland show here on YouTube...I always knew the song would benefit from the addition of a hurdy gurdy!

Bowie 45 Sells For $3,550 On Ebay - The Buyer Talks

Perhaps you're smiling now...

I'm sure many of you noticed the above US Time/The Prettiest Star 7" 45 picture sleeve sell on eBay last week for an astonishing $3,550 USD. (approx. £1,775 GBP)

You may also remember a copy of the purple vinyl Scary Monsters album selling on eBay last year for an incredible $8,440 USD. (04.19.2007 NEWS: BOWIE ALBUM SELLS ON EBAY FOR £4,220 GBP)

And, how about that Japanese promo picture sleeve of the original Philips Space Oddity 7" 45 that sold in 2004 for a record-breaking $10,600 USD. (approx. £5,300 GBP)

Well, they were all purchased by France's premier Bowie collector, Jean-Charles Gautier, (pictured below) who has been collecting for well over thirty years and has amassed what must be one of the very best Bowie collections on the planet.

Jean-Charles sets out his stall at a Voyeur fan meeting. Pic by Chas Pearson.

I asked Jean-Charles a few questions about some of his rarer items, and here's what he had to say...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Blam, it's with pleasure that I reply to your questions...

The price I paid for the Time/The Prettiest Star 7" 45 US picture sleeve is quite high, but cheap in my opinion when one considers the extreme rarity of it. No more than 10 copies were made with a picture sleeve (RCA source) and I know of only three Bowie collectors who have it. This record with a picture sleeve is certainly one of the rarest US pic sleeve singles, not only in the Bowie field of collecting but in all pop rock us issues.

The highest price I ever paid for a Bowie single is for the Japanese Space Oddity 45 on Philips which was a promotional copy in a picture sleeve, which I paid around ? 7,000 for in 2004. The funny thing is that after I bought it, I had two offers for ? 9,000 and ? 11,000 from Japanese collectors!!

Regarding LPs, I would say without doubt that there's a couple of highly valuable records. Here's a list of a few in my possession in order of rarity:

- The Man Who Sold The World Japanese Mercury promo only copy with cartoon cover
- Station To Station US RCA multi-coloured vinyl (in black and white sleeve)
- Withdrawn US Station To Station RCA colour proof
- Withdrawn US RCA Diamond Dogs sleeve with dogs genitals intact
- Purple vinyl UK Scary Monsters
- Canadian issue of Man Of Words, Man Of Music with black Mercury label

Of course, I haven't included Japanese promos, samplers, advance covers, test pressings, acetates...but their values can also be very high. In fact, I would say that 60% of a serious Bowie collection is highly valuable and collectable if the collector collects all the variations of world-wide pressings, memorabilia, etc., from across the years. which is not the case of the Bowie collectors I know, it seems I'm the only one collecting everything.

Regarding memorabilia, I'm proud of my twenty eight certified awards, (mostly awarded to David) his own Stylophone from 1969 that he used on Space Oddity, early autographs, George Underwood's promo Ziggy Stardust posters for RCA (I have around 500 items in my poster collection), Liza Jane sheet music, etc..

I still have the collector blog at bowiecollector.vox.com

I hope that answers everything. Hear from you soon, regards. Jean-Charles.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow...thanx Jean-Charles - That's a pretty impressive collection.

I'm hoping to run a regular feature about collectors in the near future. If you think you have the kind of collection that other Bowie fans would enjoy reading about, then let us know. Don't be put off by Jean-Charles's collection, there aren't too many collectors that have invested as much time and money as him.

Just let us know your top five rarest or most valuable to you Bowie items (we may ask for pictures or scans) and we'll be in touch.

As I'm sure the majority of you understand and are bored of hearing, we don't like to announce any upcoming Bowie product until we have a firm release date.

This is so that we can avoid any grumbles if that date is rescheduled, as is sometimes the case and is perfectly normal procedure.

The EMI issue of Santa Monica, (David Bowie's live recording from October 20th, 1972) is no secret to anyone as it was first hinted at with last year's Target CD wherein a version of The Jean Genie from the show was included. (09.12.2007 NEWS: TARGET RELEASE BOWIE CD TO MARK NEW DUFFTY RANGE)

However, release dates as early as April and May are being bandied about, when the truth is that there is no firm date yet and it's unlikely you'll see Santa Monica before June.

Hopefully you'll agree it will have been worth the wait, as EMI are planning a delicious package for this release.

I won't spoil the surprise with details just yet, suffice to say the limited edition will be a one-off run with no repress and a vinyl version will also be made available.

Exclusive Bowie Shot From Memphis February 26 1973

In the corner of the morning in the past...

Here's an exclusive first look at that elusive fourth shot of Dolph Smith and David Bowie that we promised you a couple of weeks back. (02.04.2008 NEWS: BOWIE VISIT TO MEMPHIS INSPIRES FILM COURSE)

Today is exactly thirty five years to the day that David visited the Memphis Academy of Art on February 26, 1973.

Mike McCarthy, who is running THE FILM CLASS THAT FELL TO EARTH that we mentioned in the earlier piece, has been in touch to say it's all going well and there are a couple more additions to the site.

I don't know how he gets the time, but first up is this excellent essay Mike has penned, entitled: BOWIE VERSUS ELVIS

There's also a new review up (albeit with a couple of factual errors) by Richard DeLisi: David Bowie live in Memphis As Ziggy Stardust and the Thin White Duke. It's accompanied by more photos of The Thin White Duke at the Mid South Coliseum on March 6th, 1976, like the one above, also taken by Richard DeLisi.

Thanks again for all this Mike...and good luck with the rest of the course.

Five days, that's all we've got...

Well, if you didn't want to shell out for it back then but are still curious to hear it, NME.com has answered your prayers by making it a free download until Friday, February 29th.

Regular readers of these news pages will know that Tom Clarke, frontman with The Enemy, is a big fan of David Bowie's songwriting skills anyway, (05.18.2007 NEWS: LIFE ON MARS? 'GREATEST SONG EVER WRITTEN' & 09.08.2007 NEWS: LIFE ON MARS ONE OF 10 MOST PERFECT SONGS EVER) claiming that Life On Mars? is the best song ever written. Who's going to argue with that?

You can reach the NME download page by clicking on either of the Toms above.

Tv Talks About Db Cover Version Of Lennon's Mother

So I, I got to tell you...

Tony Visconti, who often enjoys a trawl through the BowieNet message boards, was inspired to respond to a post by BowieNetter Robpongi regarding DB's recording of the John Lennon song, Mother.

Over to you Tony...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Blam - I've read that string that Robpongi created about Mother. I love that recording and David's vocal performance.

Robpongi says this, " And, yes, that is definitely Reeves on lead with Gail and Mike on bass and piano too for sure. Now, I am wondering "why" this was never released as a full-fledged single!?!?!?! Really, this is so exceptionally good, there is no doubt that it would have gone top 10 immediately on release, for sure! "

For the record, it was recorded on Nassau (the island). The drummer was Andy Newmark, guitar Reeves, but piano and organ were played by the studio owner. David brought the ADAT tapes back to New York and overdubbed a vocal with me, and Reeves played a solo. I played bass and mixed it on rather primitive equipment (but that's another story). So, no Gail and Mike on that one.

I've attached some photos from that session. I took the one of David (the guy who loaned us his "Elvis" mic wanted a piccie of David holding it) and May Pang took the other.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanx for clearing that up Tony...I'm sure Robpongi will be chuffed, as will be the other BowieNetters with the excellent pix.

Db Talks About Those Johansson Contributions

Scarlett Johansson and DB backstage at the Shrine Auditorium, 2004.

Waiting in the wings...

You've no doubt already read news stories regarding David Bowie's contribution to Scarlett Johansson's debut album of Tom Waits covers, Anywhere I Lay My Head.

The album, produced by TV On The Radio?s Dave Sitek, includes ten Tom Waits covers and one original composition, Song for Jo, and is due via Atco/Rhino on May 20th.

It seems many of the press stories regarding the album are going big with the Bowie contribution angle, which I guess is understandable. But nevertheless, this is what David said when I asked him whether he thought we should now acknowledge his part in the recordings...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I've seen the press on this and I suppose the record company wanted to spin my involvement a little more than it actually warrants. All I contribute are these oo's and ah's on a couple of tracks.

I popped up to Avatar Studios, way up on w.53rd Street in Manhattan and laid down my humble parts in an hour or so, double and sometimes quadruple-tracking them. David Sitek, the producer, originally asked me to do three songs, but for one of them, I Don't Wanna Grow Up, I didn't feel I could contribute much to it (lol) so I left it alone.

The songs are great, really good Tom Waits stuff, and Scarlet's performances are mystical and twice cool. She creates a mood that could have been summoned by someone like Margery Latimer or Jeanette Winterson."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanx for that David, much appreciated.

As I'm sure you all know, the two tracks that David oo'd and ah'd on were Falling Down and Fannin? Street. The tracks were originally issued by Tom Waits on the albums: Big Time from 1988 and 2006's Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards respectively.

Scarlett is cleanly pleased at David's decision to take part as she is a long-term fan whose attention was first grabbed when she saw Labyrinth, (09.11.06 NEWS: BOWIE LEFT SCARLETT JOHANSSON SPEECHLESS) a long time before the making of The Prestige in which they both appeared.

Anyway, I'll leave you with the full tracklisting for Anywhere I Lay My Head...

01 Fawn
02 Town With No Cheer
03 Falling Down
04 Anywhere I Lay My Head
05 Fannin? Street
06 Song for Jo
07 Green Grass
08 I Wish I Was in New Orleans
09 I Don?t Want to Grow Up
10 No One Knows I?m Gone
11 Who Are You?
