Db Talks Health, Happiness And The Arcade Fire

John Taylor, DB and a relieved Simon LeBon backstage at Fashion Rocks.

Think we're in for a big surprise...

I'm not sure what kind of press David's appearance at Fashion Rocks garnered outside of the UK, but I'm sure you're all aware of double-page spreads in both the The Sun and The Mirror yesterday.

Both articles featured brief interviews in which David talks about the fitness regime he has followed since last year's heart trouble. Here's an excerpt from Victoria Newton's aftershow interview conducted for The Sun:

"It's great to be back. I loved every minute of being back on stage - I didn't want to come off, I could have stayed up there all night. I feel fantastic at the moment.

After I had the heart attack I decided to take a year off and do nothing. I didn't do any work and just made sure I looked after myself. I go to the gym, I don't drink and I'm feeling really good today.

I gave up smoking six months before I had the heart attack - so that was worth it, wasn't it! I started to give up when my daughter was born because I wouldn't smoke in the house with her there so I had to go outside. It's bloody cold in winter in New York, so I just quit.

As far as I'm concerned I lead a healthy lifestyle now so it did come as a bit of a shock to have a heart attack, but I feel on top of the world after tonight.

When I was asked to do this event I said I wanted to perform with Arcade Fire, who I love, and it went from there."

According to The Sun piece, Simon LeBon of Duran Duran was particularly worried about David's 'black eye', apparently rushing backstage to check he was OK! "We were a bit worried, I should have known better."

Expanding on the Arcade Fire comment to the 3am Girls in The Mirror, David explained the lure that made him decide on "a comeback at a fashion event in the States". He enthused thus: "I told them I'd do it only if they got Arcade Fire to perform. They're fantastic."Laughing, he added: "I discovered them a year ago. Coldplay's Chris Martin has been saying he's discovered them first, but I did. So there. Na na na na na!" You can read the whole of The Mirror piece online here.

Speaking of Arcade Fire, don't forget that the band is about to start another string of dates in North America and Canada, kicking off with a show at Central Park Summerstage in New York, this coming Thursday, September 15th.

Tickets are still available, and any BowieNetters in the area may want to attend - not just because Arcade Fire are such a magical live experience, but also because you just never know who might be the band's special guest!

Fashion Rocks On Cbs Tonight Plus More Pictures

Switch on the TV we may pick him up on CBS...

Don't forget that highlights from last night's Fashion Rocks show will be broadcast on CBS in the USA this evening at 9:00pm ET/PT.

Click on the image above to reach the CB/Fashion Rocks site, where you can spy even more of David's ankle (see below) in the photo gallery.

As promised in yesterday's report, we have a shot of David backstage with Arcade Fire. But, before that, here's a shot that shows the exact length of those trousers you've all been wondering about.

"Iman, it says cool wash on the label for goodness sake!"

He has such a well-turned ankle doesn't he? The other one's not too bad either. Anyway, on to aforementioned Arcade Fire picture, followed by a shot of David during his performance of Wake Up with the band...

David Bowie congratulates Win Butler on his 2006 entry into the Guinness Book Of World Records as
the tallest rock star of all time. And, aside from Win, from left to right, that's, erm... the rest of the band!.

"The gospel accordion to Tony Day..." DB with The Fire last night.

Thanx again to Kevin Mazur of WireImage.com for the kind use of his pictures.

NB: Because the scheduled two hour show ran at three hours live last night, only Life On Mars? and Wake Up will be broadcast this evening.

But, even though Five Years has been cut from the US showing, along with bits and pieces from many other acts, (including one of Billy Idol's songs) all three songs will be shown in the rest of the world. I know this isn't much consolation for US viewers, but I'm sure everybody will get to see the whole thing in the end.

Bowie Steals The Show At Fashion Rocks

You better look out below!

David Bowie returned to the concert stage this evening for the Fashion Rocks show at Radio City Music Hall in New York, and he stole the show with trademark cool and unmatched passion.

First up, Alicia Keys introduced our man for an emotionally charged rendition of Life On Mars?. His voice sounded stronger than ever and he looked strangely surreal, but nevertheless stunning with a blackened right eye and a bandaged left hand.

David was dressed in a charcoal grey suit by new American designer, Thom Browne, with matching grey tie and white shirt and a stars n stripes lapel pin. (see detail below, all pix kindly supplied by Kevin Mazur of WireImage.com) The overall strangeness of David's appearance was completed with trousers that don't go quite all the way down...you know, Oliver Twist length.

Mike Garson accompanied DB for this sublime performance of Life On Mars?, which echoed the similarly brilliant version the pair performed at the Yahoo Internet Music Awards in July 2000. David and Mike left the stage to thunderous applause and a standing ovation, leaving no doubt that Bowie was back in tremendous style.

Before long, and after an introduction by Lisa Marie Presley, (and much to the audience's delight) David returned to the stage. This time with a 12-string over his shoulder and a very welcome Arcade Fire in tow.

That immortal opening line: "Pushing through the market square" was met with a cheer of recognition from a very vocal audience, clearly packed with Bowie fans determined to make their presence felt. Five Years is a song well suited to the sound of Arcade Fire, and when Win Butler joined David for the "It was cold and it rained so I felt like an actor" line, there wasn't a hair on any neck not standing. A most moving performance indeed.

Five Years moved straight into Arcade Fire's own Wake Up, with DB taking the lead vocal for the first lines of the song: "Somethin? filled up my heart with nothin?, someone told me not to cry." David took command of the song as if it were his own, alternating verses with Win. The incredible energy of the song peaked as a frenetic Arcade Fire wove their magic with steely determination, while a grinning Bowie continued to chop at his 12-string throughout. Powerful stuff.

Bowie wore oatmeal brown tweed suit trousers and embroidered waistcoat by Agnes B with a black shirt and no jacket during Five Years/Wake Up...for which the black eye and bandage had mysteriously vanished, thereby putting the minds' of several BowieNetters at rest!

So, all in all a triumphant return to the stage for David Bowie...as if it could have been any other way, and yet another classic and very memorable performance.

David took the time to have a few shots taken after the show with various celebrity types, looking gorgeous in the full Agnes B outfit. Just look at the embroidery detail on that waistcoat in the picture with Gwen Stefani above!

I'll leave you with a picture of David and Iman with Gwen Stefani and Lisa Marie Presley.

Stay tuned for pictures of DB with the Arcade Fire and hopefully a few other shots sometime tomorrow.

Bowie Bust Promotes Classic Rock

Who will love Aladdin Sane?

Aladdin Sane portrayed as a classic bust has been used for an advertising campaign by Dutch radio station, CITY FM. Locals have been enjoying the image all over Holland where it has been utilised for posters and billboards, etc.

Thanks to BowieNetter Bert Dijkstra for sending in the snap below of one of the advertising hoardings in situ.

BowieNetter Samadhi has also posted his own snaps on the BowieNet MBs, with the question: "I wonder why did they choose David Bowie to promote this radio-station?". Well, I'm sure the question doesn't really need an answer, but what other single artist could possibly be chosen to represent the notion of 'Classic Rock'?

Tv Talks About Kashmir's Special Guests

Kasper Eistrup, David Bowie and Mads Tunebjerg compare old school uniforms.

Oh man I need TV...

I'm sure many of you have read on Tony Visconti's site that he has been working on Danish band Kashmir's next album, No Balance Palace, due on October 10th. You may also have already heard that the band had the enormous good fortune to bag a couple of very special guest contributors to the album with a little help from TV.

Here's TV himself to tell you how the whole thing came about:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"I had a week of introductory and pre-production meetings with Kashmir in July 2004. I was so impressed with the depth of writing of this band and I was resolved to have them be more representative of Denmark than their compatriots, The Raveonettes. When Kasper Eistrup later came to New York for what turned out to be a guitar shopping spree, I casually invited him to The Killers concert at Irving Plaza as my 'plus one', I was already invited as a guest of David's. When I introduced David to Kasper in the balcony VIP section and told him he was the lead singer of Kashmir, David enthusiastically shook his hand saying that he had already heard their last CD and like it. After the concert we hitched a lift with David. "The Cynic" had not yet been written.

In March 2005 I went to Copenhagen to co-produce Kashmir's album and had already heard a batch of their new song demos. I was immediately struck with "The Cynic". It had the vibe of a Kurt Cobain song as influenced by Bowie. When we recorded the song I kept imitating David singing the second verse (I can do a decent "Heroes") and we were all sitting around saying, "As if!" But the fantasy kept getting stronger and stronger, so I finally e-mailed David and sent him an MP3 ...he could only say yes or no (I wasn't expecting, "Don't ever darken my e-mail again, you vagabond!")

David got it instantly and wrote back saying he'd have no problem singing that. I had to blink several times when I got the reply. Then I broke the news to the band. The atmosphere was like it was everyone's birthday and Christmas morning at the same time.

After the Copenhagen sessions were finished I flew back to New York in April and Kasper and Mads followed about a week later. David arrived in the studio late in the morning one day, fresh as a daisy, and enthusiastically sang the be-Dickens out of "The Cynic" as if he had written it himself. Not only did David sing to perfection, but he also treated us to selections from his iPod. It was a fabulous day! The Danes seem to be cool, even tempered people, but there was an explosion in the control room as soon as David left ...something akin to the Mardi Gras.

Lou Reed was another story. As some of you may know Lou and I are tai chi 'brothers' and see each other weekly in class. We had this great piece of music, a great ambient jam after one song that was crying out for a spoken voice part. I said, this sounds real crazy but I can hear Lou Reed speaking there. So Kasper wrote a little story based on an experience with his friend, Ricco, who owns the best coffee shop in Copenhagen and I auditioned as Lou (he's actually easier to do an impression of) speaking the story called "Black Building". It worked.

All it took was another e-mail and Lou said he would do it. It took a long time to actually get him into the studio, but when he came he was well-rehearsed and even prepared a special character for the part. He said he's got about seven voice characters he uses when he does readings of his poetry. Lou was fabulous, he did about 3 or 4 takes for us to choose from and even took a phone call from a Tibetan lama in-between takes. Then, like a New York ninja, he disappeared into the chaos of Broadway as soon as he was finished.

I'm very proud of this album and honoured that my musical friends David and Lou have graced us with their contributions and validation of such a great band as Kashmir."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanx so much for that Tony, very generous of you to take the time. Kashmir's first single from No Balance Palace is The Curse Of Being A Girl, which is out now.

Bowie 'hours...' Hologram Contest Part 3

I'll say "Don't ask me..."

This is the third and final part of our contest that gives BowieNet members the chance to win one of five 40cm x 40cm exclusive holograms of David Bowie. The holograms have been made especially for us by Martin Richardson, the man responsible for the original 'hours...' lenticular.

See Monday's and Wednesday's news if you missed the first two parts, and click on the image above for a 2D animation of the 3D hologram you could own.

This final part consists of five fairly simple questions which you can find the answers to on the net very easily... though I'm quite sure the majority of you won't need to rely on anything other than the wealth of knowledge crammed in to your pretty craniums.

On to the questions...

1 - Who wrote What's Really Happening?

2 - Many of the tracks on 'hours...' were originally created for another project. What was it?

3 - Rex Ray was responsible for the graphic design on 'hours...'. What other Bowie albums has he worked on?

4 - What is the name of Martin Richardson's book of portraits in which David features?

5 - Which of the following titles was not a bonus track on one of the singles from 'hours...'?
a) We All Go Through
b) We All Go To Town
c) We Shall Go To Town

I'm sure that was far too easy. Anyway, send your answers for all three parts of the contest to me by clicking here.

Usual rules apply: Only one entry per BowieNet account. Also, please remember you must enter using your BowieNet e-mail or at least supply your BowieNet user name.

The competition ends at midnight UK time on Friday September 9th, and we'll announce the winners on the following Monday. Good luck, kidz.

Just a brief snippet to tell you that if you missed Herbie Flowers on Marc Riley's MINT last Sunday night, you can still listen to the interview now by clicking on the image above and scrolling down to the bottom of the page.

Bowie 'hours...' Hologram Contest Part 2

I found the secrets...

If the fact that this is part two of this contest has you puzzled, then it may be an idea to look back at Monday's news. (08.22.2005 NEWS: BOWIE 'hours...' HOLOGRAM CONTEST PART 1)

This second part is even easier than the first. All you have to do is study the montage above and work out which of the four singles from 'hours...' is missing... Apologies to the very brillaint Rex Ray for the mess I've made of his artwork.

As I said on Monday, DON'T SEND IN YOUR ANSWERS YET, as I will be explaining how to send in all three lots of answers in the final part of the contest on Friday.

I should also reiterate that as it's the holiday season, we'll be giving BowieNetters who are away a fair chance to enter the competition by running it for a couple of weeks after we post the final part. The contest is open to BowieNet members only.

Bowie 'hours...' Hologram Contest Part 1

And I'm busting up my brains for the words...

Those of you that have kept an eye on the news items regarding Martin Richardson's exhibition: Time, Space and Movement, (08.03.05 NEWS: HOLOGRAM EXHIBITION TO INCLUDE 3D BOWIE IMAGES & 08.14.05 REMINDER: HOLOGRAM EXHIBITION STARTS MONDAY) will no doubt have been looking forward to this.

As I stated in the latter entry, Martin has very kindly promised us five 40cm x 40cm exclusive holograms that have been made especially for this three-part BowieNet contest. This is most likely the only way you'll ever get a 3D David Bowie to enter your home, or indeed, up against a wall in your bedroom!

If you haven't already, click on the still above to get a glimpse of how the hologram looks, a larger version of which is displayed at the Time, Space and Movement exhibition.

I decided to keep the contest 'hours...' related for obvious reasons, and without further ado, here's part one...

The original standard issue of 'hours...' was a ten-track affair made up of the song titles represented by the list of anagrams below...except there are only nine titles in the list. Name the track that isn't represented by one of the following anagrams...

HEATHENISM IGNITOR
THY PRESENT A TIGHT GINGER OTHELLO
FIRM LIMEY MAGNIFIED
EVENS
CADDISHLY HURTS
PANTHER WHALES PLAYING
US REV IV
FLOG ONANISM WEEPERS
MAD REST HERE

Pretty easy stuff, eh? As I say, it's a three-parter, and parts two and three will follow on Wednesday and Friday respectively. I'll tell you how to send in all three lots of answers on Friday.

As it's the holiday season we'll let the competition run for a couple of weeks after we post the last question, to give people a fair chance to enter. The contest is open to BowieNet members only.

Scissor Sisters And Franz Ferdinand Do Bowie

You know my Suffragette City, Is outta sight...

The Scissor Sisters brought the 2005 V Festival to an exciting climax in Chelmsford on Sunday by teaming up with Franz Ferdinand for a "radically reworked" rendition of the David Bowie classic Suffragette City.

The Sisters were joined onstage by Franz Ferdinand, with front man Alex Kapranos and drummer Paul Thompson, helping out on vocals with Jake and Ana (pictured above), while Nick McCarthy played bass and Bob Hardy joined Del Marquis on guitars.

The onstage lunacy was augmented by a collection of giant Muppet?style creations dancing behind the performers...much to the crowds very obvious delight.

Franz front man Alex Kapranos told NME.com: ?I met up with Jake (Shears) a while ago in New York and we went for a drink one day. We were talking about how much we were looking forward to V and I said: 'Hey, we should get onstage and do a song together, it?ll be a bit of a laugh'.

?We sent each other emails back and forward about what we should do. We?re both huge Bowie fans, so it seemed like an obvious choice. And ?Suffragette City? has such a to-and-fro vocal style.?

According to The Daily Record's The Razz, the supergroup performed an impromptu version of the song backstage earlier in the day.

Db On Two Movie Comp Cds, Plus Dick Out Today!

You must see the movie...

Bowie tunes feature on two recent CD compilations that I know the completists among you like to be kept informed about. First up is a double CD, HOLLYWOOD COOL which features "cool cuts from the movies".

The following three Bowie-related tunes are included on disc one:

Rebel Rebel - David Bowie [Charlie's Angels Full Throttle]
Under Pressure - David Bowie/Queen [Grosse Pointe Blank]
Lust For Life - Iggy Pop [Trainspotting]

Not an essential release, I know, but if you want the Rebel Rebel remake on CD you may feel this album is a better compilation than the Charlie's Angels Full Throttle soundtrack. Obviously the 30th Anniversary 2CD edition of Diamond Dogs also contains the track on the bonus disc, and is a better bet than both these compilations in the unlikely event that you don't already have it. Speaking of Diamond Dogs...

Next up is the soundtrack of the Australian film, Three Dollars, details of which were sent in by BowieNetter Adam D who runs the excellent Bowie Downunder site. Released through ABC Classics, the soundtrack kicks off with the quite haunting and very beautiful We Are The Dead from 1974's aforementioned Diamond Dogs. Here's a bit from the makers, which was also supplied by Adam:

"The screenplay had what you could call a naive optimism when mentioning specific songs and performers that included Elvis, Joy Division, Chet Baker and Bowie - Australian films just don't have the budgets to afford performers at that level, but a nothing is impossible attitude from our music supervisor Michaela Kalowski, and strong enthusiasm towards the film from the music industry, helped us over the line. So we have finally have a soundtrack with Joy Division's 'Transmission', Bowie's 'We Are The Dead' from Diamond Dogs (Eddie as a child quotes from the lyrics "Be elusive, but don't walk far"), Elvis Presley's version of Joe South's 'Walk A Mile In My Shoes', and Chet Baker's 'My Funny Valentine'."

Here's the sleeve and the full album tracklisting:

01 DAVID BOWIE: We Are The Dead (David Bowie)
02 GELBISON: Keep It Clean (E and N Kahn)
03 JOY DIVISION: Transmission (Joy Division)
04 DORIS SVENSSON: Whispering Pines (Robbie Robertson/Richard Manuel)
05 ELVIS PRESLEY: Walk A Mile In My Shoes (Joe South)
06 CHET BAKER: My Funny Valentine (Richard Rodgers/Lorenz Hart)
07 DIED PRETTY: Sweetheart (Ronald Peno/ Brett Myers)
08 ICE NINE: This Is Noam (Adrian Lanker)
09 JOLIE HOLLAND: Darlin Ukelele (Jolie Holland)
10 Three Dollars - Titles (Alan John)
11 Ode to Joy featuring Miritana Hughes vocals, and Llew Kiek ukelele (Alan John)
12 Claremont's Land (Alan John)
13 Fading Light/Crossroads/Overtime (Alan John)
14 Through with Love featuring Phillip Slater trumpet (Alan John)
15 Alfred's Money (Alan John)
16 Deadlands (Alan John)
17 Abby (Alan John)
18 Integrity The Sacking/Spiraldown/Bin search (Alan John)
19 The Bashing/Three Dollars - Coda (Alan John)

Finally, today also sees the release of the Region 1 triple DVD set: The Dick Cavett Show: Rock Icons, that was put back a couple of weeks from the original date we gave you back in May. (05.23.05 NEWS: DICK CAVETT DVD DETAILS, PLUS NO IOW DVD) Please accept my apologies for the extremely childish and unnecessarily rude headline, but how could I resist such a lovely double entendre.

Hologram Exhibition Starts Monday

I'm the future, I'm tomorrow...

A brief reminder that Martin Richardson's exhibition: Time, Space and Movement, opens at Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery in the UK, from tomorrow morning, Monday, August 15th.

We told you all about Martin's work and the exhibition a couple of weeks ago, (08.03.05 NEWS: HOLOGRAM EXHIBITION TO INCLUDE 3D BOWIE IMAGES) but, for those of you that can't get along to the exhibition, the good news is that you can still enter to win one of five 40cm x 40cm exclusive holograms made especially for a BowieNet contest.

The contest will begin next Monday the 22nd. Meanwhile, click on the still above to get a glimpse of how the thing will look, and indeed, how the hologram in the exhibition looks.

Obviously you won't be able to get a measure of the 3-dimensional depth, but it's a bit of fun anyway.

Kraftwerk Nod To Bowie In Mojo Feature

Kraftwerk at Düsseldorf Station in 1977. Probably waiting for Iggy Pop and David Bowie.

From station to station back to Düsseldorf City...

The September issue of MOJO magazine has a seven-page special on Kraftwerk. The feature includes an interview with Ralf Hutter of the band, who responds to the question: "How important was David Bowie's infatuation with you?", thus:

"That was very important for us, because it linked what we were doing with the rock mainstream. Bowie used to tell everyone that we were his favourite group, and in the mid-'70s the rock press used to hang on every word from his mouth.

We met him when he played Düsseldorf (April 8th 1976) on one of his first European tours. He was travelling by Mercedes, listening to nothing but Autobahn all the time." (See below for David's comment on the accuracy of the latter observation)

Kraftwerk themselves immortalised aforementioned meeting in their own song from 1977, Trans-Europe Express, with the line: "From station to station back to Düsseldorf city, Meet Iggy Pop and David Bowie", even including a shot of the pair in the video for the single.

David's own 'tribute', released the same year, took the shape of V2 Schneider on the "Heroes" album, after Florian Schneider.

DB also spoke in some depth about Kraftwerk in an UNCUT interview a couple of years back, which we reprinted the full unedited version of here on BowieNet at the time. I'll leave you with some of the relevant bits...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UNCUT: Many reasons have been suggested for moving to Berlin: the local art and music scene, to escape superstardom, for spiritual and physical detox - plus the creative stimulation of being in an isolated, edgy, divided city. Are these theories accurate? Can you remember why the city appealed?

db: Life in LA had left me with an overwhelming sense of foreboding. I had approached the brink of drug induced calamity one too many times and it was essential to take some kind of positive action. For many years Berlin had appealed to me as a sort of sanctuary like situation. It was one of the few cities where I could move around in virtual anonymity. I was going broke; it was cheap to live. For some reason, Berliners just didn't care. Well, not about an English rock singer anyway.

Since my teenage years I had obsessed on the angst ridden, emotional work of the expressionists, both artists and film makers, and Berlin had been their spiritual home. This was the nub of Die Brucke movement, Max Rheinhardt, Brecht and where Metropolis and Caligari had originated. It was an art form that mirrored life not by event but by mood. This was where I felt my work was going. My attention had been swung back to Europe with the release of Kraftwerk's Autobahn in 1974. The preponderance of electronic instruments convinced me that this was an area that I had to investigate a little further.

Much has been made of Kraftwerk's influence on our Berlin albums. Most of it lazy analyses I believe. Kraftwerk's approach to music had in itself little place in my scheme. Theirs was a controlled, robotic, extremely measured series of compositions, almost a parody of minimalism. One had the feeling that Florian and Ralph were completely in charge of their environment, and that their compositions were well prepared and honed before entering the studio. My work tended to expressionist mood pieces, the protagonist (myself) abandoning himself to the 'zeitgeist' (a popular word at the time), with little or no control over his life. The music was spontaneous for the most part and created in the studio.

In substance too, we were poles apart. Kraftwerk's percussion sound was produced electronically, rigid in tempo, unmoving. Ours was the mangled treatment of a powerfully emotive drummer, Dennis Davis. The tempo not only 'moved' but also was expressed in more than 'human' fashion. Kraftwerk supported that unyielding machinelike beat with all synthetic sound generating sources. We used an R&B band. Since 'Station To Station' the hybridization of R&B and electronics had been a goal of mine. Indeed according to a 70's interview with Brian Eno, this is what had drawn him to working with me.

One other lazy observation I would like to point up, btw, is the assumption that 'Station To Station' was homage to Kraftwerk's 'Trans-Europe Express'. In reality 'Station To Station' preceded ''Trans-Europe Express' by quite some time, 76 and 77 respectively.

Btw, the title drives from the Stations of the Cross and not the railway system.

What I WAS passionate about in relation to Kraftwerk was their singular determination to stand apart from stereotypical American chord sequences and their wholehearted embrace of a European sensibility displayed through their music. This was their very important influence on me.

Interesting sidebar. My original top of my wish list for guitar player on LOW was Michael Dinger, from Neu!. Neu! being passionate, even diametrically opposite to Kraftwerk.

I phoned Dinger from France in the first few days of recording but in the most polite and diplomatic fashion he said 'No'

UNCUT: Was there ever a serious plan to record with Kraftwerk, as some biographers claim?

db: No, not at any time. We met a few times socially but that was as far as it went.

UNCUT: Did you cruise the autobahns listening to 'Autobahn' non-stop, as Ralf Hutter once insisted?

db: Certainly on the streets of LA in 1975, yes. But by Berlin Autobahn was rather last years news. So, in short , no..

UNCUT: Were there any meetings or planned collaborations with other 'Krautrock' bands like Cluster, Neu! or Tangerine Dream?

db: Not at all. I knew Edgar Froesse and his wife socially but I never met the others as I had no real inclination to go to Düsseldorf as I was very single minded about what I needed to do in the studio in Berlin. I took it upon myself to introduce Eno to the Düsseldorf sound with which he was very taken, Connie Plank et al (also to Devo btw who in turn had been introduced to me by Iggy) and Brian eventually made it up there to record with some of them.

UNCUT: 'V2 Schneider' - a tribute to Florian?

db: Of course.
