Honor to be Presented at Ceremony During Live Broadcast on The WBAt the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino In Las Vegas, October 28, 1999
Los Angeles ? David Bowie, one of the most influential and ground-breaking musicians of our time, is set to receive the Legend Award, to be presented at The WB Radio Music Awards, it was announced today by Anthony Eaton, Executive Producer of The WB Radio Music Awards. The WB Radio Music Awards honors music's hottest performers and the nation's top on-air radio personalities. This major television special, to be broadcast live on The WB from 8-10 PM Eastern Standard Time, will take place Thursday, October 28 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
In addition to receiving the award, David Bowie will perform during the awards show, joining an already stellar line-up of performers from a variety of music genres including Kid Rock, Garth Brooks, 'N Sync, Naughty by Nature, Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth and Faith Hill.
David Bowie, the self-described "Chameleon of Pop," began playing music at age 12. Throughout his career, he has anticipated pop trends and stylistic changes, radically exploring new musical territory. From his early years as a glam icon, to his critically acclaimed work in the late 1970s, to his runaway commercial success in the 1980s and 1990s, Bowie has remained an important influence on scores of musicians and fans.
Also taking part in the telecast will be Christina Aguilera, Lou Bega, David Boreanaz, B*Witched, Kenny Chesney, Ginuwine, Luscious Jackson, Jo Dee Messina, 98 Degrees, Julio Iglesias Jr., Josh Jackson, Vitamin C, Robbie Williams, and Tom Green, in addition to other surprise celebrity guests.
The first true testament to the powerful impact radio has on the success of a musical act, The WB Radio Music Awards will be presented by radio air personalities, recording artists and today's hottest actors to the winners in several categories including "Pop Song of the Year," "Country Artist of the Year," "Alternative Artist of the Year," "Hip Hop/R&B Artist of the Year," "Air Personality of the Year," and non-traditional categories such as "Best Car Jam," "Best Hook-Up Song," and "Parents Just Don't Understand." Nominations are based upon radio airplay as determined by Mediabase, the medium's leading source for tracking airplay. The WB Radio Music Awards Academy is comprised of 400 radio programmers in various formats from the top radio markets, and they will select the winners.
In addition, viewers will be able to vote for their favorites on-line at http://TheWB.excite.com. Since Thursday, October 14, fans have been able to vote for "Best Car Jam" and "Parents Just Don't Understand." Beginning at 8:00 p.m., Eastern time on the night of the show, viewers will also be able to vote for three new categories: "Best Performance," "Most Stylin', Male" and "Most Stylin', Female." Votes on the "Most Stylin'" categories will be tabulated during the broadcast and announced live on the show. The results of the voting on "Best Performance" will be posted on the Internet and will also be announced during the nightly news on many of The WB affiliates.

The show is being produced by Tall Pony Productions. The executive producers are Anthony Eaton, three-time Grammy winner in the long-form video category; Paul Joseph, Executive Producer and Co-creator of "Rick Dees Weekly Top 40," and Von Freeman, Director of Marketing, Clear Channel Communications-Los Angeles.
