Announce Collaboration on Omikron: The Nomad Soul, a Break-Through PC GameFeaturing theWorld's First "Virtual Album"Eidos Interactive, a leading worldwide developer and publisher ofinteractive entertainment,Wednesday announced a collaboration with legendary rocker David Bowie onOmikron: TheNomad Soul(TM).
Bowie and Reeves Gabrels, Bowie 's collaborator and guitarist since 1989,worked closely withthe game's developers, Paris-based Quantic Dream, to create original musicfor the game, includingeight new songs.
Bowie also plays the role of Boz, a character in the game, and appears alongwith Gabrels andbassist Gail Ann Dorsey in a virtual band, which performs in several bars inthe massive Omikron city.
Omikron: The Nomad Soul is a brilliant, strikingly stylistic and futuristic3D action-adventure gamethat Eidos is releasing on PC CD-Rom in October 1999. Omikron has been morethan two years indevelopment and implements never-before-seen features such as facial motioncapture in realtime.
The game contains more than 400 different sets in four huge cities, 140characters that move in 3Dreal time and four hours of dialogue. The game features the first-ever virtual album, which characters in the gamecan purchase, takeback to their virtual apartment and play. The music of Bowie and Gabrels isthe perfect complementto the atmosphere of the Omikron experience. "I moved right away from the stereotypical industrial game music sound,"said Bowie . "My priorityin writing music for Omikron was to give it an emotional subtext. It feelsto me as though Reeves andI have achieved that." Omikron: The Nomad Soul introduces virtual reincarnation to the gamingworld. In order to movearound the city, the player must place his or her soul into the body ofsomeone in Omikron.Whenever this body dies, the soul is transferred into the body of the firstperson who touches thedead body. Iman, the world-famous model and Bowie 's wife, is featured as an`incarnable'character in the game.
