What Performance?
Rumors have been spreading about a potential David Bowie/ Placebo performance at the upcoming Brit Awards 1999 (UK annual music awards show scheduled for February 16 - London's Docklands Arena). The rumor was partially started by BowieNet on December 10th and perpetuated by the newspaper "The Sun". The Sun article claims that David and Placebo will be teaming up for a duet, performing T-Rex's classic 20th Century Boy, (a track Placebo contributed to the Velvet Goldmine soundtrack). Placebo was one of the opening band at the Bowie's 50th Birthday Bash, and Bowie has called Placebo's album Without You I'm Nothing one of the best of 1998. As far as the rumor goes, "When we hear more, you'll hear more"!

Star's Man
Niel Spencer of The Observer Life Page has done a bit of star work on David. Here is what he has to say:"Capricorns don't come more obvious than David Bowie, who fell to Earth under the sign of the ambitious mountain goat on 8 January, 1947. Astrologers explaining DB's longtime sci-fi and technological obsessions would, doubtless, point to his rising sign of freaky, modernist Aquarius. The ongoing flurry of activity in that sign lends good omens to the launch of BowieNet , his own web server, while Pluto at the apex of his chart augurs transformation."
Critics Review Bowie Exhibit
Here is what the Critics are saying about the "Bowie" Exhibit at the Rupert Goldsworthy Gallery:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Time Out New YorkIssue 168December 10-17, 1998"The artists in the show share a fascination for David Bowie, but the better works here get past simple adoration to examine Bowie's cultural impact on a deeper level...the show as a whole is thoughtfully installed.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Review MagazineDecember 15, 1998 "As Goldsworthy sees it, Bowie was more than an influential rocker: he became the embodiment of a cultural movement to which he gave language and images. Goldsworthy pays homage to Bowie by organizing a group exhibition that unabashedly idolizes him even as it picks up his project of making art from pop culture - in this case, Bowie's pop art...If the criticism is that Bowie appropriated and synthesized forms, or questioned identity, then these artists suggest that he was prescient of later art. The artists here gladly advertise Bowie's influence on their development."--------------------------------------------------------------------------------The New YorkerDecember 21, 1998"Bowie" - An engaging group show featuring works in various mediums. Such a large selection of works by diverse artists almost inevitably leads to a variation in quality, but there's plenty of good stuff to look at." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rumor has it that there will be a "Closing Party" for the Bowie exhibit on January 23rd at the Rupert Goldsworthy Gallery to celebrate the exhibits run?
