David Bowie Day/the Priory
Nov 9th was rather a red letter day for TV viewers inthe UK!! Not only did VH1 have an entire day entirely devoted to David Bowie, but UK viewers also got a full Bowie-dose on the first edition of a new Channel 4 light entertainment show ?The Priory?.
Featured on VH1 was a show entitled VH1 to 1, which featured new interview footage, with David being filmed from twolocations. When asked about?hours...? he said that instead of having two or threedifferent focuses, like?Earthling? and ?Outside?, the new album had only onefocus, the songs and the lyrics.
The question of happiness came up, and he had this to say,
?I hate albums that are really happy. When I am really happy, I don?t like to hear happy albums, and when I am really sad I don?t wanna hear happy albums...and I tend to gravitate towards the lonelyand isolated anyway when I write.?
On revisiting his back catalogue.. he said he had changed his mind from?never? to ?all right, maybe a bit?, reporting that he had done ?Changes? in Europe recently ?and yeah, it was great..its a really good song! (laughs). ?
For The Priory, David appeared in a short section called ?Sorry, I can?t be with you?. Recorded in Austia, therewere six videotaped questions for him to answer.
Here are the questions.
Q : (Constance) What?s a normal day in your life?
A: (j/k ) I surround myself with cameras, and shootshows like this one, andthen in the afternoon I do a gig.

It picked up like crazy, a sleuth of homage sites to him have appeared, the one, the only, 'MAHIR'. It's just TOO funny to ignore!!! -David Bowie

Even More Omikron
To add to the already impressive list of articles Nomad Soul has received from the press, here is another helping of pertinent previews, riveting reviews, and intriguing interviews.
What were the most challenging aspects and time periods of the development? "You mean apart from the fistfights in the Omikron Fight Club? [Laughs hugely?] Collaborating with David Bowie and Reeves Gabrels, Bowie?s guitarist, was a fear that became a pleasure, and the biggest problem David Cage had was just to sustain his team. It?s very demanding developing a game that has everything!"
What was the most satisfying aspect of the development, and the final game? "Collaborating with Bowie, collaborating with Bowie, the fact that there IS a final game, and Collaborating with Bowie."
go to the Adrenaline Vault "Both music and sound are used to great effect during the game, the music more so. The David Bowie and Reeves Gabrels soundtrack and ambiance music is very well suited to the game. Most of the David Bowie tracks are only played when you visit one of the bars his band is playing in (You pick up flyers that tell you where the next gig is)."
go to Active Net "...There is the glass spider himself: Bowie. Originally, he was asked to license some of his previous work for the game. But after he looked into the game and its ingenious premise, he decide to provide several original tracks for the game, one of which will be an upcoming single. And as if that weren't enough, the man himself appears in the game as the mysterious BOZ."
go to Daily Radar "Enter the Omikron, a dome-covered city set in a universe parallel to our own. Playing as Boz, "The Virtual Being," your task is to save the souls living under the Dome from Astaroth, the god of blackest evil. Legendary rock icon, David Bowie lent his superb voice talents and visual likeness to the main character, as well as contributing music to the soundtrack. Omikron combines a deep plot with action, adventure and investigation, creating a dark world of surreal insanity."
go to Gamefan "Welcome virtual traveller, enjoy your stay..."
An Omikron fan site. Here you can find plenty of downloads, and screenshots, and a history of the game, the city of Omikron, and the characters.
go to Omikron Travel Guide "David Bowie has been in the bloodstream of nearly every musical movement, from folk to the glittery birth of glam rock, and now into electronica and beat-driven balladry. With his role in the upcoming Omikron, he's found a way to marry his many interests, doing the voice and music for the virtual rock star Boz. He recently talked to us about his role in the Internet community, and the present state of future music."
go to IGN PC "I think its' a sort of huge database about a world called 'Omikron'. There are huge texts, shots, sounds, gigs of data scattered on this server."
go to IX-Database The Nomad Soul "Tu provieni da una dimensione parallela. Al momento stai controllando questo corpo tramite l'interfaccia di un videogioco per computer. Il tuo involucro fisico è ancora nella tua dimensione, ma la tua anima è qui, a Omikron..."
As you can tell, this is an Italian game site and magazine.
"Mr. David Bowie's latest genre crossover is 'Omikron: The Nomad Soul,' a new computer game that draws the player into a world of changing faces, shifting identities and demonic possession. The goal is to save a fictitious city from destruction, with lots of new music by Bowie as your soundtrack."

Reeves Gabrels Releases Internet-only Album
Long-time Bowie collaborator Reeves Gabrels releases his new album online in an unprecedented move bypassing traditional record companies and CD production. The album, Ulysses (della notte), went online at www.ReevesGabrels.com on November 4th, and will not be available in stores.
"The Internet lets me make my music available to listeners within a week of completion. And these songs are coming out unaltered or remixed by a record label's A&R department. What you hear is what I wanted you to get. No compromises," said Reeves Gabrels.
When fans download Ulysses (della notte) they will receive a bonus player that is the equivalent of a virtual album cover with audio playback capability. The result is the integration of the music and album art online.

Bowie Interviews Bowie
Deja who? This one is really great! Here is exclusive David Bowie Interview: David Bowie at the age of 53 interviews David Bowie at the age of 23. Huh? Well you will just have to read it for yourself.
Here is an excerpt:
db1. (53 years old) You look tired, what have you been up to?
db2. (23 years old) Thanks, you don't look so rested yourself. I've been recording a song called Space Oddity. It's a sort of a sequel to '2001', a fantastic movie I just saw with my girlfriend Hermione, and the other half of my duo, a guy from Yorkshire called Hutch. This Kubrick guy is fantastic. So modern, really objective and with this amazing cold eye. Fantastic.
db1. You've got to learn some more adjectives. I'm sorry to tell you that Kubrick just passed on, quite unexpectedly. Hey, go and see 'Clockwork Orange' when it comes out. It'll change your life.
db2. Yea, well, I doubt it. Andrew Loog Oldham, the Stones manager has already lifted bits of the book for a Stones album liner-notes. I think they were supposed to do the film.
db1. Ah, but you haven't seen the false eyelashes yet.
db2. Eh?
db1. Never mind. Have you met Jagger yet? I can't remember.

Shift.com Interview
"For three decades now, we?ve watched and listened. And for three decades, David Bowie?s career trajectories, his often-cited re-inventions--from the glittering gender-bending glam persona of Ziggy Stardust to the crooning Thin White Duke and the harmless New Romantic--have walked the fine line between seeming entirely erratic and seamlessly organic, depending on which critic you ask. Bowie?s most recent shift was onto the net."
