Set in a private room with own bar just a stone's throw from the Hammersmith Odeon (now Apollo), of farewell Ziggy concert fame, it is the ideal location for a Bowie party and to meet BowieNetters from across the world!!!! What a way to set the tone the night before setting off to see the man himself at NetAid!!

Details: We are expecting a great crowd for the party, we can accommodate up to 200 people. There will be a minimal charge of £3 per person to cover costs of room hire and the DJ, any surplus funds will be donated to the NetAid charity. Bring your Bowie CD's with you to add to the Bowie atmosphere! Plus special BNet goodies to be had in a grand giveaway!

Art Attack

Wednesday, Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani threatened to cut off all city funding to the Brooklyn Museum of Art unless it cancels next week's opening of SENSATION, a project that Bowie has been involved with and supports.

Damien Hirsts and Chris Ofili, two of Bowie's favorite artists are both at the center of the controversy. If you remember back to Bowie's journal from October 29th, 1998, Bowie predicted that Chris Ofili would win the prestigious Turner Prize, which Ofili did indeed win.

Ofili is a Roman Catholic whose portrait of the Virgin Mary was at the heart of the Mayors complaints. The Mayor, who actually had never seen the exhibit, only the show's catalogue, declared SENSATION as "sick stuff."

"You don't have a right to government subsidy for desecrating somebody else's religion," he said. "And therefore we will do everything that we can to remove funding for the Brooklyn Museum until the director comes to his senses and realizes that if you are a government-subsidized enterprise, then you can't do things that desecrate the most personal and deeply held views of people in society. I mean, this is an outrageous thing to do."

Here, Ofili defends his work:

"As an altar boy, I was confused by the idea of a holy Virgin Mary giving birth to a young boy," he said. "Now when I go to the National Gallery and see paintings of the Virgin Mary, I see how sexually charged they are. Mine is simply a hip-hop version."

The city gives the museum nearly $7 million a year in operating expenses -- nearly one-third of its $23 million budget.

According to the folks at NBC, if you show up at NBC on the 49th Street side of the building the day of a scheduled show at or before 9:00 a.m., you can get in line for STAND BY tickets, meaning that if someone with a reserved ticket does NOT show up, you could potentially get in.

Digital Download Expanded To Australia

Bowie's new album "Hours..." is out! The album download is available in two different formats: Microsoft Windows Media Player and Liquid Audio (both players are available for free download at the links above).

Bowie fans can choose to purchase the album in either format; if you choose the Windows Media Player format, the album download includes a special edition David Bowie Player.



As reported last week, the download is only available through participating retailers whose sites are based in the US, Canada and now Australia.

The new issue of ToyFare has a fan-made Bowie-as-Jareth action figure.Created by David A. Evans from Ashland City, Tennessee, this custom-made action figure is David Bowie as Jareth, the Goblin King from the 1986 film Labyrinth. Evans used Sculpey and doll hair over a wood frame to create this Ziggy Stardust-esque action figure.

Illustrated Db Discography Updated

There has been some changes with The Interactive db Discography.

First and foremost, the discography is now called "The Illustrated db Discography".

It's creator has this to say about the updates:

"As I added thumbnails for most albums in v9.0 I thought this name would be more appropriate. This David Bowie discography from now on is called the Illustrated db Discography!

Lots of additions in this update: the new 'hours...' album, the 'Without You I'm Nothing' single with Placebo, the Stigmata soundtrack, the forthcoming Saturday Night Live compilation, a 17-Track Album Sampler for the EMI re-release CD series, a promo called Unconditionally Guaranteed, and the 20th Century Boy (BOW 0198/DB 20 CB) and Emerged From Shadows (EDB 001) bootlegs.

Furthermore I implemented several corrections and additions as suggested by Steen Christiansen".

Bowie In Rolling Stone

This months Rolling Stone (Sept. 30th, 1999) has an article on Bowie and the upcoming album.

Entitled Bowie's Golden Hours: David Bowie digs into his past for Hours...,his strongest album in years.

The article talks about Bowie 'casting an eye toward the past' with his pre Ziggy Stardust period serving as the foundation for the Hours album.

"I found all these sites that contained sound files of my old material. Some of them were good, others were embarrassing. Before last year, I never listened to my own material.

But I really wanted to make sense of the stuff I'd written and its repercussions on what I'd write now. I didn't want it to be a nostalgic type of sound, but I still have enough elements to throw you back."
