The Hunger

Tony Scott's new series The Hunger will air on The Canadian Movie Network tomorrow night. Hungry for Bowie in the US? Look for the series to air on Showtime here in the States later this fall.

David Bowie is the host for each half-hour episode. The premiere episode (entitled The Suction Method) airs Saturday June 5th at 10:45PM and again on Thursday, June 10th at 10:30 PM.

SYNOPSIS: A middle-aged cheating husband (Fisher Stevens) gets what he deserves when an unusually beautiful carpet cleaner (Valerie Valois) comes over to rid the house of unwanted dirt.

Bowie Tv Guide

In this week's TV Guide (June 5-11), there is a feature called "TV's 25Greatest Musical Moments" where TV Guide and the Today Show teamed up toselect the greatest 25 musical moments.

David's guest appearance onBing Crosby's 'Merrie Old Christmas' on November 30, 1977 was the 14thgreatest in the selections made.

They say "Of David Bowie's many peculiar personas (e.g.Ziggy Stardust), this may be the strangest of all: Bing Crosby's duetpartner on a Crosby Christmas TV special. Their repartee was agrandad-meets-martian fiasco, but then the two started singing together,artfully meshing "The Little Drummer Boy" with "Peace On Earth". It wasmagic.

As they glided to the finish, Crosby murmured, "Pretty thing,isn't it?" Yes, Bing, even beautiful."

The National Portrait Gallery's 'ICONS OF POP' Exhibition opens on Friday 4th June 1999, featuring photographs of fifty performers, representing over forty years of British pop culture from The Beatles to The Sex Pistols, The Rolling Stones and David Bowie.

More Mike Garson

2 weeks ago, BowieNet reported that Bowie had contributed music to the film Stigmata starring Patricia Arquette and Gabriel Byrne, which will be released on August 27th.

The song is called "The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell" and a different version of the song will also be included on the soundtrack which is currently scheduled for release on August 10.

Other artists confirmed for the soundtrack include Massive Attack, Remy Zero, Chumbawamba, Billy Corgan and the Afro Celt Sound System featuring Sinead O'Connor on vocals.

Why are we re-telling this tale? Well, it seems that Mike Garson actually co-composed the score for STIGMATA with Billy Corgan. He also composed the music and Billy wrote the music for the end title. Small World huh.

Minis!

Here are a few shots of the MINI, the "Art Car" that was part of an Nation Wide design Competition.

The Mini company asked Kate Moss (model), Paul Smith (clothes designer) and Bowie to design a car. All three were exhibited at the prestigious Design Museum at Butlers Wharf in London.

Entertainment Weekly Poll Puts Bowie On Top

This week's Entertainment Weekly Magazine (special collector's issue for May 28 - #487) focuses on the 100 Greatest Moments in Rock. Our man is all over the place. Here are the main Bowie mentions:

Responding to a poll conducted by EW Online (www.ew.com), more than 36,000 voters named their favorite rock artists of the classic era (before 1980). The polls put David Bowie at the top of the heap, with a majority (35%) of the votes, beating out John Lennon, Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix to name a few. Barbara Streisand came in a distant second with 16.5% of the vote.

Here is the half page photo where David gets the Number One Best Solo Artist mention.

Bowie also get's top ranking by MTV. VP of music programming Lewis Largent was asked to pick MTV's 10 most influential vidoes in chronological order. Coming up first on the list are Bowie's "Boys Keep Swinging, DJ, and Look back in Anger.

Largent had this to say about his number one pick: "This pre-MTV trilogy from the glam rocker's Lodger days influenced the look of all videos to this day." Click here to view the Lodger videos.

Bowie also snags 2 of the Top 100 Greatest Album Covers with Aladdin Sane and Diamond Dogs.
