On commencement eve at the Berklee Performance Center, Friday, May 7, 1999 at 7:30 p.m. EST, students will present a concert tribute to David Bowie and fellow honorary doctorate recipient Wayne Shorter, performing selections from their award-winning careers. Bowie is expected to be in attendance.
As a special treat, Berklee plans to web-cast the commencement concert via Real Video. BowieNet will post more information on this as the event time approaches, or you can check out the Berklee College of Music website for more details.
Both Bowie and Shorter will speak during the commencement ceremony the following day (May 8th), with Bowie being the principal speaker to more than 600 graduates and 3,000 guests.
Other past Berklee honorary doctorate recipients include Duke Ellington, B.B. King, Patti LaBelle, Sting, James Taylor, Pat Metheny, Dizzy Gillespie, Billy Joel, Bonnie Raitt, and Quincy Jones.
