American composer Philip Glass recently performed with orchestra in the strife-torn city of Belfast. Appropriately enough, the main piece of the evening was Glass' haunting 'Heroes Symphony,' an adaptation of the Bowie/Eno classic compositional album'Heroes'.
Message From David:
With the BowieNet Chat-room event queue growing (and more to be announced soon), David had some thoughts on the posting of chat transcripts.

"I've had a word with the guys at ULTRASTAR and we've arrived at the notion that 'IT'S OK' by us for you to post complete transcripts of the Guest Chat Nights. I think Tina was getting a bit sulky because two or three sites were posting it faster than US!! Well, in my book, that's Site-Life. So, the race is on, I guess. Try it! Just go ahead. Ya wanna piece of me? Just you an' me, punk." - DAVID B

Cracked Mirror?
Public Enemy has been made to remove their songs (available for free download in the MP3 format) from their website as, apparently they forgot to inform their record company that they intended to do this!!
Chuck D said posting the free songs was an act against the entire record industry. On Tuesday, PolyGram, threatened legal action unless the songs were removed from the Web site. Public Enemy took the songs off the site, as requested.

Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, writers of the classic 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' and other Motown hits are the next in a line of artist/writers to do a 'BowieBond' deal by selling securities backed by royalties on their old catalogue. Since Bowies' precedent making deal of 1997, all such deals on Wall Street are known as BowieBond deals

A Night Out In Blackpool
Bowie has been rated as the 10th most popular artist in the Blackpool Lending Library. Blackpool is a Northern Holiday resort in Britain that can be sort of equated with America's Coney Island. Bowie comments: "I'm flabbergasted. I've had a fair amount of success in my time but this almost over eggs the cake. Do I get my own stick of rock now?' (A candy stick with the name Blackpool imprinted throughout the length - Ooooo naughty)" -db

Show Me The Money
12/04/98 UPDATE: SHOW ME THE MONEY

Chris Ofili, the 30yr old from Manchester, England, is the first painter to win Britains' prestigious £20,000 Turner Prize in 13 years. The Turner has previously gone to sculptors, Installationists, media-artists and the like. Ofili, a long time favourite artist of Bowies', is renowned for including not only dialogue-provoking black imagery in his work, but also large pieces of elephant dung. His idiosyncratic approach has often divided critics, (of course). On excepting the prize from fashion designer agnes b., Ofili exclaimed "Thank God. Where's my check?"
